Re: Do people still play this game?

Do you mean anyone can see a game and join? Because frankly both on Descent Rangers and DCL, I was pissed off by the procedure for becoming a member, I think it is more complex than one used by Google to hire a leading Research Engineer :). Surely more complex than in Intel where I worked. Yes I und...

Re: Do people still play this game?

Is it possible to play fun games without strongly participating in ranking games/tournaments? I am interested in occasionally playing multiplayer (D1/D2) games but don't care about ranks. And I cannot plan for sure whether I will be able to play at particular day and particular time.

Re: Descent 1 1/2

You can make the invulnerability a bit less convenient. Personally I feel bosses should be a noticeable difficulty spike right at the end of the level. D1L7 definitely captured this, while D2L4 just had a big robot with more health that just happens to teleport and start the countdown. On Insane (a...

Re: Descent 1 1/2

I think L3 was rather easy even in it's earlier setup. At least compared to CS and Vertigo. I don't believe that making many of the starting levels (for example, 10) significantly easier than standard campaigns is a good idea. But giving it more tension and style, would be the very nice. Maybe can b...

Re: Impressions on Descent: Insane, cold start, no-death, 100%

L16 run is impressive, but boss fight is a bit strange, first you should have saved more guided missiles during the run and then use them more sparingly luring the boss into the place where you can make safe shot on it. In fact, you can approximately guess where the boss is (at least the distance) b...

With homing missiles, yes, I also learnt to dodge them in D1, need to move at maximum speed (=trichording or at least bi-chording) and right angle when it is just about to hit you. It is even possible to outrun it, I recoded this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcPKCNz5FGw In fact I play Rebirth 0...

Re: Descent 1 1/2

Regarding bosses and walls - from what I recall seeing, if a boss is behind a wall or door that opens up, there needs to be only one cube (the one that the boss is in) behind that wall or door, or it won't move into the rest of the boss room when it teleports. It's an exception case in the way D2 f...

Interesting, I thought 7 is yours because it is the only one of DH's levels that does not have an Ownage Depot (or I haven't found it, but I carefully checked every level with DLE to ensure I found all useful secrets and did not skipped large areas unintentionally) - which was my secondary goal. 8,9...

Anybody knows how those multiple bosses, like in AF level 3, Obsidian L15, Entropy 2 work? Do they share the HP or are the separate bosses? Why they all die at the same moment? Haha, seems the most evil AF levels are designed by DH (maybe except 7? but it has only an evil boss) - and the same is true for TEW. I think yellow key is a bit tough - some lethal robots there - if you are not lucky enough to get the cloak like Sirius did, and also the red key area should have sound strategy to beat (the rest of the level is relatively linear). And the boss is nasty, requires some patience and luck to beat... Th...

I mainly wanted to ask why it was designed that a bit "anti-climactic" way - L2, 3 being very diffucult, and for example L 14 and L15 not too hard... Was there any idea behind the difficulty progression and level order here? Yes L2 is...

Thanks! Yes, no Gauss is one thing making L2,3 harder. Another one is very cramped geometry, which is rare in later levels. About using non+standard weapons, I consider it a kind of cheating, too. To be honest, regarding multiplayer: don't try to design levels for that until you've played a lot of the game mode you're building for. Alter-Fox, I think it is a bit too harsh criticism although it has a lot of valid points for sure. The main reason I can think of is that it makes the in-built missions significantly harder than they were designed to be by Parallax. Rebirth historically has been very reluctant to mess with existing gameplay. Since the in-built missions didn't use the D1 bosses, that change has less impact. If do...
