I'd go for image quality at a lower resolution rather than just sheer resolution... if you want both size and quality it'll cost you. A lot of games cant even recognize a resolution that high.

Graphically tough? If a 6800 cant handle it, you can bet that a GF2 would choke on it. That said, yes the 4200 and the PCI GF2 would work together.

A Windows reinstall wouldnt hurt, but if you want to avoid that route I'd recommend uninstalling and updating the drivers for everything (vid card, chipset, sound, network, etc).
