Re: Let's Play CTF & Entropy! Round #9!
Krom, when your Polaris server started filling up tonight, it crashed, not sure why. I ended up putting up the game on my server (the other usual Friday night activity wasn't heavy, so it was okay this time), turned off the LAN options to conserve bandwidth, and it seemed to hold up okay for 8v8. P....

Re: Let's Play CTF & Entropy! Round #9!
FYI, Krom, the server fps shouldn't be above 500 or 1000 - dedi D3 servers can start doing wacky things at server framerates above that, even when you have the CPU horsepower for it.

Re: Population Control
From what I understand of population/resource dynamics (which admittedly is mostly just the general math principles involved), I would expect to see an eventual peak, but I don't see a mechanism that would cause a crash. So what are folks seeing that would cause a crash, rather than stabilization ar...

Enough, guys. Spidey, when calling out a poorly-framed debate, leave the "list of usual suspects" off; it only serves to derail the thread into "who-did-what-in-other-posts". Slick, you can report / address / handle it without adding to it. ------------ Back on topic, I wonder if...

Re: Ban Democrats from owning Guns
For folks here, it's a matter of weighing the cost of responding. Responding to a post provides an opportunity to counter an argument, but it also has the effect of bringing attention to the post and putting it back on top of E&C. So it boils down to, "is the benefit of my rebuttal worth th...

At some point, population control will likely be necessary. I disagree with this premise. Population growth has already slowed significantly, and will continue to do so as contraception improves worldwide. I see no reason to repeat the rampant "global starvation" speculation of the 1970s.

Re: Looking for a D3 server host
If running on a Windows box, the basics are: 1.Set up D3Server (with Thomas' updates) - it's fairly good out of the box, but you may want to tweak a couple things. 2. Networking (port forwarding for D3, might need something to get the trackers working as well, I'd have to look). 3. Configure the gam...

Re: Looking for a D3 server host
If you don't get any volunteers, I can set up D3 servers on my home connection. I have more bandwidth and cpu on my home connect than the [RIP] server... but I don't like doing that, because if I end up playing, I have a 1-2ms ping, and it doesn't feel right to have that much advantage. (I'm also sl...

I'll look into what happened on the server, but my hunch is that there was also an event simultaneously scheduled in The Underverse (also run by [RIP]/DRH, on the same server machine) and it required too much bandwidth or CPU.
I'll keep you guys posted.

For the first couple of weeks after the legalization happened in Colorado, I noticed a few more inattentive drivers than normal.
Not sure if it was just a cognitive attention bias, but driving-wise, things seem normal around here now.
