I'd like to use Linux more, but there are two main things holding me up... 1) I use specialised software. Most of it isn't written for Linux. 2) Trying to install or configure or bugfix ANYTHING in Linux is such a pain in the ass I can't even be bothered. Once those two things change there would be ...

When I tried running it a little while back neither D1 nor D2 would even start up, so it's not a big deal. I was only getting 30-40 fps in the SDL version of D2X though. (0.12 I think)

The reason, I suppose, is that my machine isn't fast. Or at least not fast enough to cause problems.

(I guess a P3 667 with a Voodoo 3 only has so much power.)

Last time I tried, I have had no trouble running Descent 1.4a in Windows XP through VDMSound... unfortunately D1x doesn't work because of the way it accesses the video card... The D1x Windows ports do though. Descent 2 is also fine through VDMSound. Of course for that one you have the option of the ...

Well... -sort of-. To be completely accurate, ships in Descent shouldn't be able to 'slide' to start with because they have no engines with a lateral thrust.

Yeah, the Pyro-GX scenes look awesome. What we all wished D1 looked like even though it was beyond the technology of the time.

Descent 3 levels do still have some issues looking acceptable though... First off, half the multiplayer levels that have been released are just plain ugly. Honestly, there were 1996 games with better-looking environments than a few of them - bring your average 2004 player in, who is used to stuff li...

roid - if it didn't appear to be expanding to us, how then do we know the universe has a radius of 78 billion light years and not 15 billion? I don't quite get that bit...

Descent 3 had 'mip-maps' or something like that that performed essentially the same task though.

But to do this you'd need to update Descent 2, not just the mission editor.

Awesome. Some features that we really should have had long ago... well, if Descent.NET ever comes out maybe it'd have a bit more use. :) Unfortunately even Descent 2 is eight years old now. In addition, now that the source is out I guess future changes are much easier... like if we can go beyond 900...

The website is interesting, but it doesn't really introduce anything new to the debate, IMO. Anyone worth their salt should already know it. 1) Interesting, but by the sound of it not something I'd lose sleep over. It may be easy to fix though. 2) This is because of the way the level's designed - the author used reverse gravity. By the sound of it, it isn't a default D3 level, so it can't be fixed by Outrage (and might have been intentio...

Why do you want the rear-view to be a mirror? Descent 2 didn't do that.
