If you select you are planning on upgrading, explain to what degree.

Just out of curiousity..

My Athlon 3000+/1Gb/Water Cooled/Radeon 9800 Pro 256 runs just fine even with BF2 and HL2. I may eventually replace the Radeon but for now I have no real need to upgrade.

XP1700+ @ 2.4 GHz / 1 GB RAM / FX 5900U runs just fine, however I am planning on getting an Athlon X2 and at least 2 GB of RAM on my next upgrade cycle, probably early/mid 2006 depending on how well this current PC holds up.

AMD 64 3000+/1GB/Geforce 6600GT.

I'll be upgrading when I build my HTPC using the 3000+/1 GB, which will be in the nearish future (before New Year's if all goes well). No specific plans for my upgrade, probably just pop in a new processor and some nice RAM.

639MB of RAM sucks, especially when HL2 and Doom 3 use almost twice that. I need more.

Very intel-centric voting. GHz means bugger-all these days.

Your poll means very little as there's no specification on how old your existing machine is, which always plays a mjor roll in an upgrade decisions.

my computer's a laptop with 1.8ghz. It can run current games alrite, albeit with slight difficulties. I plan on purchasing a new, fullblown desktop when money allows it.

The computer is an old dog, I'm running a 1gig AMD TBird, with 512 and a crappy ATI 9200 video card.

I just placed an order for a AMD 64 3800+ yesterday from newegg.com for 323.00. Motherboard not sure which one I want yet. But it must support PCI Express x16, and 4 gigs of ram. Video still looking as well.

I've got a 3.0 ghz P4, but that's coupled with a measly ATI Radeon X300 64 MB card and just 512 MB of RAM, plus an absolutely crappy Dell case. I think it's safe to say that I'll upgrade at some point, but not until I actually know what I'm doing and understand the myriad of acronyms that seem to surround computer hardware. :P

Exactly for me too, I don't play near the games I use too, and when I do, most of them are on xbox.

I'm looking forward to the xbox360, but if I were to win a new computer tomorrow, I would only be mildly enthusiastic about it.

This thing web browses and word processes just fine.

Currently running 666 MHz Pentium 3, 64MB Radeon 7500, 768MB PC133 SDRAM... will probably upgrade by 2007 for obvious reasons, but to what I'm not sure; depends what I can afford.

Mobius...

A lot of people only know how fast their PC is. I can know if someone has a 3GHz they aren't gonna have a Radeon 7000 in it. It is merely an average ;)

A lot more people don't even know that.

Edit, oh yeah, I forgot to mention I have 1050 GB (978 formatted) worth of HDD space in my computer, don't plan on upgrading that soon, but wish I could since less then 60 of it is free space.

But for real, I don't usually see such high ended CPU and low end Video except on Servers.

Well I guess you see something new everyday

edit:sorry Mobi', fixed a couple typos for ya' :P

<sigh> I'm the only vote for 400MHz with no plans to upgrade?? :(
Anyway, like Mobi' stated, plans to upgrade this ol' thing would be pretty useless...it does need something tho', screen goes black for a few seconds on occasion, even with broadband connection it still takes a year to load a page, and I can't even run a 5.1 soundcard without sacrificing performance in some other program. But I'm not complaining...it was free and I can still kill people in D3 so :P

Well, I suppose there is the distinction between upgrades and replacements, which I mostly ignored. But I would certainly be using some parts from the current machine, so it is an upgrade of sorts...

GOt an athlon 1.4 with 768 megs and GF3. Plan to get a new A64 3000 939 based system with a 6800 GT and possibly raid 0 SATA totaling 500 gb. Of course im in a bind of wether I really want to plop the money down for the upgrade because there are not alot of good games coming out soon to be playing on it. Justifying 900 dollars just to play Oblivion aint enough, if there are not enough GOOD games then im gonna opt out and put up with what ive got.
