19" CRT?

Post by Pun »

I'm looking for a good 19" CRT for gaming. Preferrably, but not necessarily, in a black cabinet.

Any Suggestions?

Nope. But anything which can make 75Hz at 1600x1200 would be a good start. Just ensure that the refresh rate scales upwards dramatically as the resolution decreases.

For example, it should make 85-100Hz at 1280 mode, 120Hz at 1024 Mode, 150 Hz at 800 mode and 200Hz at 640x480.

Then once it's installed, you need to follow the tuning advice at http://planetdescent.com/d3help/framerate.shtml

I'd go for a Samsung. They've got some 19
monitors with BEAUTIFUL displays. 18" viewable, 0.20mm dot pitch, flat glass display, etc. I forgot what exact model I saw on display at Office Depot, but it was somewhere between $150 and $200. If I could get a few more things sold, I could nab one. :)

Personally, I like the Trinitrons. Dell used to sell their own branded 19" Trinitron in black. They don't sell it anymore, but we've started seeing them showing up on refurbished sites for very good prices. Sorry, don't have time to look for a link at the moment. I have one of 'em at home, and several at work, and everyone here is very satisfied with them.

Trinitron Current: 1024x768x32 @ 120Hz

I've been pleased with my 19" KDS Avitron (ie Sony Trinitron).. even after a brownout screwed it up and put the convergence off, the picture still looks great as long as what I'm looking at isn't purple. Hmmm May explain why I moth so bad =P

But the new Flat Screen KDS crts are very nice

NEC's FE991SB is the one you want! Boutique vendors used it in their systems a few years back - must be high-end, eh? ;)

Samsung 19" DynaFlat: once you use a flat screen you'll never want to go back. ;) I've been using the Samsung SyncMaster 955DF ever since I received this computer (3+ years).

I have the Samsung DF955 and I'm not to happy with it. I prefer the Viewsonic with better refresh rates.

I have a 19'' Sony Trinitron G410R. I'm not sure if they make it anymore. As far as I'm concerned, Trinitron (and the equivelent from other manufacturers) tubes make the best image possible.

Ditto I bought a p90f a few months ago, I'm LOVING it
Currenty running 1280x960 @ 100hz
Amazing image quality, the only monitor that I've seen that I like better is the p225f (my friend has it on a comp i built him), the 21" version of this one =)
but for 200bux more

dell.com had a real good deal when i bought this and free shipping also

The "E" and "A" lines of the viewsonics are garbage, u cant compair it to the one were talkin about.
ud be set with pretty much anything in their pro series but the p90f and p225f are my favorites

yeah, i agree with trix, only the Professional series monitors are any good from Viewsonic.
pf775 is the best 17" imo, as are the p90f and the p225f depending on size preference.

If money is no object however, you might consider the Sony F520 its been the industry leader for years as far as CRTs go.
