Ban Democrats from owning Guns

Post by woodchip »

While you might think it is the far right who are committing the mass shootings, you would be wrong:

– Nidal Hasan – Ft Hood Shooter: Registered Democrat and Muslim.
– Aaron Alexis, Navy Yard shooter – black liberal/Obama voter
– Seung-Hui Cho – Virginia Tech shooter: Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff, registered Democrat.
– James Holmes – the “Dark Knight”/Colorado shooter: Registered Democrat, staff worker on the Obama campaign,
– Amy Bishop, the rabid leftist, killed her colleagues in Alabama, Obama supporter.
– Andrew J. Stack, flew plane into IRS building in Texas – Leftist Democrat
– Jared Loughner, the Tucson shooter – Leftist, Marxist.
– Harris and Klebold, the Columbine Shooters – families registered Democrats and progressive Leftists.
– Bill Ayers, Weather Underground bomber – Leftist Democrat.
– Lee Harvey Oswald, Socialist, Communist and Democrat – killed Kennedy…
- John Wilkes Booth, murderer of Lincoln...Democrat
- John Hinckley Jr, registered democrat, shot Reagan

There are more but I think you can see if we ban gun ownership from Democrats, we would have a lot less killings.

Callmeslick, every thread gets its day, as long as it has a topic and doesn't devolve into flames, etc.

If you want to participate, I suggest getting back to the topic (i.e. you were making a point about the selection of the items in the list?).

If you don't think a topic is worthy of discussion, then don't discuss it.

Out of curiosity, why is this garbage? Because it portrays the left in a unflattering light? You have a habit of labeling non democrats as "idiots" such as my post about MI residents preferring Carson over Hillary. Is it garbage because it is untrue or are you upset it is true and detracts from your anti gun narrative? Hopefully you and Vander can hold a actual substantive discussion instead of deflecting by calling me names.

Is that what you're hoping for? A discussion with substance?

Personally I think gun control is a lost cause. The horse has already left the barn. Even if all gun sales were banned, there are still 500 million guns already out there. I think there are numerous more important issues that require attention, and gun control divides possible coalitions to address such issues.

Foil, this topic is complete garbage. It's only intent is to inflame, spread hatred and cause trouble. You wanted quality? It's the opposite of quality. In fact, it's the very definition of a troll topic.

precisely, a bunch of cherry picked bull★■◆● with the goofy premise about democrats or liberals with ZERO merit in terms of the issue of gun regulations and sensible law. As I say, what sort of 'professional' response does moderation wish beyond the polite request not to allow such garbage flame bait to see the light of day?

You might want to read this woodchip. You really need to watch or listen to news sources other than right wing demagogues plying junk news to susceptible conservatives.

Ah yes...the Examiner.:

After Smith brought the issue to Pimentel's attention, the voluminous Gray material was removed from Examiner.com. Pimentel said the Examiner has "a less-strict standard for accuracy and attribution in stories that appear on the Web" than for publications in print.

What a stellar source for real info. Glad to see the regs here jumped on it as "proof" that what I posted was untrue.

So it is garbage to point out that those clamoring for more gun control are those committing the atrocities? Remember when the press was desperately trying to make Holmes a right wing gun nut? I guess when they found out he was a left wing nut is when the news stopped broadcasting his political leanings? Funny how that works.

Or if a topic isn't worthy of discussion, and is clearly designed just to provoke a mindless inflammatory response, why should it even be allowed on here in the first place? If you really want this place to have basic standards of debate, where people attack arguments instead of people and make an honest attempt at informed discussions, why give the drive-bys and general nonsense the time of day? Otherwise, we're going to be stuck with the same-old same-old.

As I continue to drag this topic out....

The best way to kill nonsense is to ignore it. If everyone complaining about this thread had just moved on without giving it a response, it would be half way down the first page and virtually forgotten by now. Instead, you continue to resurrect (and indirectly support) the OP by posting in the thread to complain about it.

Who is giving it the time of day?

... oh, look, it's all the people complaining about it. Were it not for all of the complaints, this thread would have like 3 total posts.

I don't want moderators to be in the position where they're trying to decide on the merits of every thread. It's not Foil's job to say "this is a dumb topic so I'm locking it". It's Foil's job to say "this topic has gone off the rails so I'm locking it" or "this topic is way too heated so I'm locking it" or "this individual post is inappropriate so I'm removing it and PMing the person who posted it."

It's everyone else's job to decide "this is a dumb topic so I'm ignoring it". You, the posters, decide on the merits of a topic. If it has merit, discuss. If it doesn't, STFU and let it die. If it's really egregious, click the "report" button. Post after post of whining and dead-horse-gif doesn't do anyone any good.

For folks here, it's a matter of weighing the cost of responding.

Responding to a post provides an opportunity to counter an argument, but it also has the effect of bringing attention to the post and putting it back on top of E&C.

So it boils down to, "is the benefit of my rebuttal worth the cost of increased attention"? If not, just let it be. If so, then counter-post away.

so I guess any kind of garbage is okay.

You wanted quality, Lothar. Threads like this are the opposite of that, and produce exactly what they are designed to produce -- garbage.

No.

Jeff250 and I do not filter topics based on content. We moderate the discussions.

However, that does not mean that "garbage is okay". It means that "any E&C discussion from any perspective is allowed". Flames, personal attacks (not to be confused with attacks on ideologies), and unprofessional posts will still be moderated.

[ Note: This thread really warranted one quick response to point out the bias/errors of the cited source. After that, it could have been left to die. But now we have a zombie thread, kept undead by complaints about it being alive. :P ]

I'm trying to educate you on how to not produce garbage.

It's very simple: if you judge a thread to be a garbage-producer, don't respond. Then you don't produce garbage. And you don't encourage others to produce garbage. And whatever garbage has already been produced falls off the page quickly and doesn't clutter things up.

Then let me ask you this: What value do you think this thread holds? How does it help the community? Would it bring about any positive discussion, in any form?

I understand what you want (lothar and foil), but I think it's been shown pretty clearly that most people here won't tolerate this kind of a thread.

And since 'any perspective is okay', would that mean if you saw a thread (this is for foil specifically) that was attacking, say, overweight people, would you be fine with that?

I think what they're suggesting is simply using our self-restraint and allow junk like this to die on the vine, unanswered. Sometimes human nature is that generous, other times, not so much. I'm lazy and would love moderation to be more proactive, but I see the counterpoint.

How about adding a feature in the board that allows people to ignore threads that are started by people, like the 'ignore posts from' feature.

Exactly.

Why intentionally give life to a thread you want to die, and then ask someone else to kill it? Why put in the effort to respond so that you can ask Foil to put in even more effort to lock it so that he can stop you from responding?

Just use sound judgment and self-restraint in the first place.
