But in the case of Descent, there is one question that needs asking:
What community?

The one you're apparently not part of.

Oh, give me a break. The Descent community consists of what, 500 people, 1000 max? Give me a break. The DBB is just a bunch of yohans that post on a BB themed after Descent. Descent has very little to do with what goes on here.

He asked, apparently he doesn't know.

Most of the people here are barely a part of it.

edit: I meant - yes, many people here are barely a part of it. So you just ranted on an agreement? hehe :)

I know as much as I need to.

My point is, the Descent community is so small that listening to its demands would essentially not affect sales. The people that would buy this game would be from other areas such as FPS games, and those who used to play Descent but have since moved on to other games, and thus can't be contacted as easily.

On the other hand, listening to the Descent community's demands could affect sales adversely. I don't think I need to explain why.

Hehe... well, some of any group's ideas are stupid. What I'm thinking of is, you're talking a minority group here, who may have quite different and possibly mutually exclusive ideas about what constitutes a good game when compared with the rest of the gaming population (who, let's face it, will constitute the majority of sales anyway).

That segment of the community is the more important to listen to, like it or not.

The real skill comes in keeping the newcomers entertained, the old players happy, and still coming up with a unique and interesting game.
