KVM Switches

Post by CDN_Merlin »

Which are good?

Belkin, DLink etc?

I need to buy one and I'd like to know which are less prone to troubles.

I currently have a belkin 4 port KVM switch that I'm very happy with. Make sure you get decent monitor cables to go with it. DO NOT get those thin, cheap $5 VGA extension cables, otherwise you wont be able to do much in high res cause of signal degradation. If you get a belkin switch, you might wanna get the belkin cables that they offer too.

I've had a 4-port Belkin Omni for years with no problems.

Be wary, last time I was looking at KVM switches many of them didn't support the additional buttons on many keyboards or mice with a bunch of buttons. Also, some only support up to a certain resolution. This many no longer be true, but it was last time I looked at them.

Make sure you read specs carefully.

I agree with Arch. Pick out a few you like at a retail store, write down the make and model, and look up their specs and pay close attention to user reviews.

Well, Since Staples dind't have the 2 port Belkin I bought a 2 Port Linksys. ONly diff was cables were 4 ft shorter (4 ft instead of 8ft) and the res was lower but still way above the res I will be using. So far everything is running fine.
