If I was in the presence of someone of asian origin, I would too. since that's how you show respect to them.

learn their culture already so you don't end up looking stupid again.

Did the leader of China give a equal bow beforehand or after Obama's head bow? If not, you fail once again.

and this gives cause for people to whine?

you give respect first. If you get it back, great. if you don't and complain about it, you just end up looking like a tool.

xamindar: i'm not even going to bother with you. you're not worth it.

It would seem to me as a matter of protocol that both leaders bow at the same time as a matter of equal respect. By Obama bowing first and Hu not returning the gesture speaks volumes don't you think?

he is shaking hands with Obama, and in certain parts of China, a handshake is all that's needed.

It is the common propriety on most social occasions as an expression of courtesy and greeting when people meet or say goodbye to each other.

How do you ninjas know whether or not that Chinese guy expected Obama do to that? Do you know exactly when the picture was taken? What if he just wanted to greet Obama the American way?

IMO. this thread is a Waste of Bandwith. Bowing as a form of respect. this is not my nuts are larger than yours. I have no problem with it. it's not like he prostrated himself

This is just like the school bully beating you up because you looked at him funny whether you meant it or not. If Hu not bowing is a sign or not who knows. It is idiotic to try to read something into this very small thing.

Give Obama credit where credit is due...he may not actually have a trace of humility in his character but he knows enough to pretend in the presence of a superior.

I take issue with it whether it could be said to be proper or not, because I'm pretty sure that Obama isn't on solid ground in his thinking there. Currying favor with foreign leaders through over-the-top displays of respect as a way to influence them toward cooperation with his idea of what America should be in the world is not strong foreign policy. If he returned a bow I could respect that. The problem I have is that Obama is a liar. I can't say whether I've ever heard him say anything straight-forward (Kennedy-esq my ass, and comparing him to Lincoln is a farce). So when he does something, I would be naive to believe that he does it sincerely, because it would be against what is so obviously his nature.

Tell me, when you guys wake up in the morning do you do some kind of yoga exercises to rid yourselves of all discrimination?

it's a picture. and maybe it's only one half the picture. we do not know if the Bow was reciprocated or not. now if it was a Video then there would be more to discuss

I have $5.00, Cuda, based on the man's posture, that says Obama bowed first, and based on his demeanor I think it's a strong likelihood that it was not returned. Ain't a picture worth a thousand words anymore? ;)

People who have no trace of humility think they are superior, so they don't try to pretend.

Obama is not very smart by all the bows he is doing. In the OP picture, Hu looks so much more statesman than Obama does it's not even funny. Just wait tell the elections get going hot and heavy and these pics are used against him. Palin will be a shoo in

They do when they think the act will enable them to manipulate the target.
He got elected by doing it....

What Bush did somehow precludes me from having opinion about what Obama does or somehow justifies it?
And lets don't forget Obama ran on the premise that he was different and better and not-Bush and he was going to be the "post partisan President" etc, puke, etc.

Besides I think Bush did show sincere humility at times. He still screwed ★■◆● up but my comment wasn't about policy it was about ego and I think Obama has Bush out gunned in that department by a very large margin.

Think again. :)

It \"sort of\" justifies it. As Chuck Norris once said, \"the whys and wherefores don't matter.\" :) Doesn't matter how sell-outs get elected, it matters that sell-outs do get elected.

I really didn't think that this subforum was for dissecting a handshake needlessly, instead of discussing real issues. For example, we could be discussing the caucus system prior to elections, or even the founding principals of Hinduism.

Did you...did you seriously just link a New York Post editorial piece as serious evidence?

Forget what I said earlier. You're beyond help.

(And my God, the comments on that editorial. It's so nice to know that our public education system has utterly failed us.)
