Trying a new Inkscape technique.

I basically start with a ball and turn it into a sphere with gradients for sampling. I think it fakes 3d better than my old inkscape methods.

Looks pretty good to me.
But it probably took a bit longer than me making this:

That's nice! I might have to give blender another shot one of these days. I'm still trying to master Inkscape though.
Here's another try. You can see on the left is the drawing and the right are my samples, I started with.

This is for my next image. I'll use this image for color sampling and reference.
I want to later draw a ship attacking a robot.

Bit of progress. I shot my self in the foot by putting all the objects on one layer. I'll have to spend time separating them before I continue, since my little netbook hardly handle what's there. Layers lets me hide most of the objects so I can make a bunch of new ones on an empty layer. I still want to add a ship, dog fighting a robot.

I really like this technique. The "hall" picture looks great. Can you post an update when its finished?
