by the way......I might be away quite a bit

....in the coming days and even months. No cape waving putulance, no insult taken. Sadly, my 94 year old dad passed away last night. I'm the only son, and thus the executor of the estate. I'll try to pop in when time permits, but don't take lack of response as anything past 'Slick must be busy'.

As I'm getting older, I'm learning to deal with more and more loss, but I can only imagine how difficult it must be to lose a parent. I am so sorry for your loss. :frown:

My condolences.

One bit of advice, from our experience being in charge of an estate can be a very frustrating experience at times, anytime you want to come and vent about it, we will be here.

Best wishes slick. Your dad must have had a strong constitution to make it to 94. That's impressive. I hope things go well when settling everything. You're lucky being an only child at least. You won't have to contend with other siblings fighting over things. For me, my stepfather is now 83. There are 2 children on my mother's side of the family, 1 from the second marriage and 1 from the previous marriage. I just know it's going to be a messy estate, especially when dealing with the kid from the previous marriage, who decided to come back into his father's life after years of no contact. How convenient. He's a money grubbing little blankity blank. :x

once again, thanks for all the kind wishes and offers of venting time. As noted, as the sole child and heir to the vast bulk not given to charity, the distribution part will be easy. However, the accounting, inventory and documentation of an extremely complex tangle of real estate, investments, cash, commodities, collectables and the like will be a nightmare, and I live in fear of getting dinged for missing something. I do have an accountant helping me, and an attorney for the real estate stuff, but still. Also, he had acquired 94 years worth of personal memorabilia, Masonic stuff, other collectables which I do wish to distribute to those most appreciative in his life circle. That will be a job as well. Right now, we're dealing with the loss. In the coming weeks, I have essentially a full time job for a year dealing with settling and sorting everything.

I hate condolences. I will give alms to a beggar in the memory of your father, Slick.
