It's baaaaack! The Huckabee Turd

AKA, the Fair Tax Act. So, is this a GOP newly exhumed polished turd a wonderful idea, or nothing but the same old same old screw the entire middle class? Personally, it's a big fat non-starter for me. The whole idea STILL smells to high heaven, even repackaged and polished. I can't even find a solid number. 30% or 23%? Which is it? It makes a BIG difference. And will that rate stay the same permanently, or be subject to change in the future at the whims of Congress?

IMHO the concept is good, but there are just too many problems in actually implementing it.

I voiced my objections to the idea back when Robinson was advocating it.

Don't worry it will never pass.

It's not a good concept.

Yeaa, I wouldn't think the elimination of an entire government agency would hold water with a socialist. :P (although I'm sure there are some you could think of
)

As I pointed out in an older discussion there are numerous problems with the idea, but the "concept" of a fair tax is a good one and in my opinion, a simple raising of the standard deduction would go a long way in that direction.

I have no problem with simplifying the tax code, or at least making it simpler for tax payers to deal with. I have a problem with any change to the distribution of tax burden that fails to tax billionaires into millionaires.

Reagan did it once, so why not again? Both parties in Congress bloated it up again over the years, mostly to benefit the rich elite I'm assuming and bring in more cash for the government. The 1040 was one page after Reagan simplified things. I have a feeling the REAL reason is that the fringe anti-government part of the GOP wants to abolish the IRS by any means possible and there's absolutely no altruism at all to help out the taxpayer by simplifying the tax code or do anything to benefit the middle class with some tax relief. A large consumption tax does just the opposite for most working Americans.

I know you are just teasing, but I want to point out you can have socialism without any government at all.

So increasing this countries debt is a fine idea?

You don't get to talk about the countries debt. Your party's about as responsible with money as the crackhead on the corner.

Hey now, surely those *checks notes* massive tax cuts on top earners during Republican administrations had nothing to do with a ballooning deficit.

Why isn't your party on board with this? Oh wait, they'd never raise the FICA tax cap to nail the rich pig elites. Heaven forbid they support that hated socialist program that benefits poor and middle class Americans who make less than $147,000 a year (being raised to a paltry $160,200 in 2023) and have to pay those taxes out of their paychecks as long as they're employed.

I'm fact, here's Rick Scott's, aka Skeletor, newest capitol ideas. Make those who are poor and don't make enough income TO pay taxes now have to pay taxes. Jerk.

Yeah TC, letting millions of illegals flow across our borders to collect free health care, free housing and free food is a grand idea too.

It actually is because immigrants, illegal or otherwise, have a net benefit on our economy. That's why it's allowed to happen. You think it can't be stopped? Every other country can stop it but for some reason the US doesn't? That's super naive to think that way. Capitalism loves to exploit cheap labor and immigrants are the #1 source for it.

Also it is worth pointing out that the millions figure is the number of immigrants being stopped at the very not open border instead of immigrants successfully crossing the border. The right wing talking point is once again the complete opposite of reality.

woody never stated what percentage of our GDP is going towards those illegal's "services". The fact is, it's the opposite. Social Security actually benefits from undocumented workers because even though they pay into the Social Security Fund when they work, they rarely or don't qualify for any benefits or obtain payouts. They get screwed.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/persona ... r-AA16W92b
Illegal immigration continues to be a hot-button issue in the United States, with much of the focus centering on the need to reduce the number of illegal immigrants coming into the country. But that misses an important point: Immigrants without legal status often pay into Social Security but don’t get to claim benefits when they retire, MarketWatch reported.

What’s more, illegal immigrants who pay into Social Security also don’t qualify for the program’s other protections, including long-term disability and survivor insurance protection. The result is a net gain for Social Security, which is something the program can sorely use right now, experts say.
He's also ignoring that migrants, illegal or not, help boost the economy and our tax base, not hurt it. Sure, they're treated like dirt and are paid slave wages, but Capitalism doesn't care as long as money is made and the government doesn't care as long as taxes are paid.

How do you pay into Social Security without a SS number?

Because the government is way more likely to overlook someone's illegal labor practices as long as they process payroll taxes correctly.

And to process properly you need to have a SS # otherwise you will treat them as a independent contractor with cash. I know as I employed people people both ways.

Unfortunately, by illicit or illegal means where the government turns a blind eye. Money is money, even from the wages of illegals.
