you dont need to extract the file, just point the installation routine to your win98 cd, /win98 folder.

d3 is my favourite, with d2 and d1 close behind. the only thing i miss in d3 is a better weapons balance for the primarys (lasers / plasma to weak, md / fusion to strong) and the darkish creepy cavestyle d1/ d2 had. but other then that d3 beats d1 /d2 in any aspect. ah well and the music was better ...

hmm ok, lets not talk about the programming then and the engine, just about the content. stock d3 had on release ~900 complex objects (a lot with animations), ~3000 textures, ~600 sounds, 17 hugh singleplayer levels, a lot multiplayerlevels, musictracks and moviefiles. and that was 1998, todays game...

some of the d3 bots have damage-zones, the tracker-bot for example. you can shot of his megamissile-turret. this small spiderbot with red lasers can be disarmed too. also the juggernaut and some other bots.

hey pally, get a second browser and jap+java. install the browser (mozilla or something else), install java and run +configure the jap anonymity proxie. now tell the second browser on that maschine to use jap as proxie.

its a commnadline tool duper, it has no gui.

use it like this:

3dsgen -i <Input Filename> -o <Output filename>

or copy the oof you want to convert into the 3dsgen folder and just drag it on the 3dsgen.exe, that should work too.

grab supersheeps 3dsgen here (pd): http://www.dfiles.de/download/d3/utilities/3dsgen.zip you will need 3dsmax 4 or higher. the program has 2 parts, first with the .exe you convert the oof to a 3dsmax .3ds-file now load the new .3ds-file into 3dsmax and run the 3dsmax-script included with the package...
