We can either have war between nations, or war within nations. Although the within nations war is not called war, it is called holocausts. Be it suffering children because of a communist government who save all the luxuries for themselves and are not affected by a cyclone, or thousands or Iraqis who...

Aggressor, I like the things you're saying. Just to be sure of where we disagree, I don't believe the best way to learn philosophy is to go to a top liberal arts school. But, like you hinted at, all of this depends on what your purpose in this study is. I like to think a state school will do, or se...

Of course, if the "controller" was really evil, he (or she) might just pit people against each other to simulate war for his (or her) entertainment. Yep, but without them going against the leader with the possiblity of victory. There is guaranteed safety for the world leader in so much as...

I'm talking about Jacen Solo, aka Darth Caedus, in his quest to rid the galaxy of evil and corruption through rigid control, has in turn become the very thing he is trying to destroy. Chaos and entropy will always rule the universe, control requires organization, the very antitheses of entropy. I'm...

I guess humans will always be slaves to their mistakes and mistakes will always cause some failure, hence the inability to control everyone through computers. 8) Mistakes are not guaranteed. Computers cannot be creators, Descartes proved that, they are machines and therefore cannot think. Thinking otherwise is not only against modern philosophy, it is against modern science, both which Descartes founded. Aren't they starting to get computers to write code now in some circumstances? You have to remember that the borg were not equal. All were controlled by the queen. (BTW, not to get off topic or anything, can anyone find a Hil...

I agree that people on forums aren't the best go-tos for answers. Which is why it's great there are so many avenues to learn about philosophy. I disagree that the best way to learn philosophy is to go to a top liberal arts school. If someone has a true passion for philosophy it is incumbent on them...

We don't need to worry about someone gaining 'Complete Control' yet. Since most software written by humans at the present is SO buggy and error prone, I'd be more worried about 'Fried Brain Syndrome' from all those downloads than anything else. Now if MACHINES or COMPUTERS were somehow able to be e...

While I don't personally agree with Aggressor, to add to his post, anyone can download podcasts off Itunes U from some of the top schools on many subjects, including philosophy. They're all great. Your premise is that this will happen to such an extent that there will be only one person who completely controls every single other human on Earth? Sorry, but in my humble opinion, humanity is far too disorganized, splintered, hateful and self-destructive to ever pull off something like that. Uh,...

No, that is loose control. People can still manipulate the physical world at their discretion. I'm talking about a severing of the physical world from the spiritual world, a severing of mind from soul (without death), in which all thoughts, memories, and feelings will be under the perfect control of...

Actually quite a few, but as per the Christian teachings, fundamentalist Christians usually don't blow anyone up for it. Unless the target runs an abortion clinic. then they kill the doctor and blow up the building. Maybe some (and I emphasize some for I don't believe many Christians believe this i...

In the age of the Ancient Greeks, the greatest fear of the West was tyranny from the East. Well, now in 2008, tyranny has been conquered by democracy, and that problem has faded away. However, I would like to point out that technology is creating a new tyranny that is far more powerful than totalita...

Even atthe quantum level, there is no real randomness, even if we don't understand it. Cause and effect. No cause, no effect. The cause is the beginning. Nothing happened outside nature till man. Man's soul is spiritual. Animals, being part of nature, are machines like nature. As my philosophy prof ...

Because it should be even more realistic than Crysis considering its coming 2010-2012. Anyway, I was looking at some FreeSpace videos and thought this would make a cool scene in D4 if its about an invasion, doesn't have to be our star, just one of them. This is just so epic: http://www.youtube.com/w...

Wow, and it was 6.5 cents this morning. I guess those who invested $100 yesterday are happy now. Better invest before the price gets too high people! Interplay is coming back and those who invest are going to get rich. $100 today could mean $10000 in 3 years. Could have been $20000, but shame on tho...

Um, Ageia is dead and with them is the PPU. All physics will either be done on Larrabee or the GPU or both if Larrabee makes it as a CPU platform. As for Interplay stock, I would invest as much in Interplay as I would be willing to pay for Descent 4. That way, even if this all was a flop, I would fe...

Ya Descent 1 even beat Quake 1 to the door with fully polygonal ships and enemies. But i do find it hard to visualize how realistic a modern Descent game would be. We're breaking pretty far into photorealism thesedays. So Sci-fi is getting harder and harder to pull off - afterall, you have to make ...

Quantum Tunneling Through Time + More Quantum Stuff
I know quantum tunneling can allow particle to go through perfect walls (and in a sense across unlimited space due to a particle's diminishing probability stretching out infinitely), but can a particle also use quantum tunneling to break conventional time travel (backwards or skip ahead) considering...

If D4 comes to the market, hopefully it can fight Crysis. Two top of the line visual games would be an awesome PC game war. Concerning stock: If all supporters of Interplay games put $10 into their stock, then the stock would rise like crazy considering Interplay would have even more certain means t...

Descent IV, A Prequel?
According to Wikipedia, Descent IV was supposed to be a prequel to the Descent series, not a sequel to Descent 3 as I have always thought. Was this true? If so, it adds a whole new dynamic to the title, The Invasion, which Planet Descent talked about. Descent never mentioned an invasion happening be...

Yes, Crysis can be a hog. You need at least a dual core and a GeForce 8600. Quad core alongside a G92 can do wonders. Some more news: Crysis 1.2 Patch is out. Crysis ModSDK 1.2 is out. 1.2 patch fixes a lot of problems with Crysis allowing players to finally play SP and MP with no problems and no ha...
