Re: Any people from DMC still around?

Tyranny was on the DCL briefly a couple years ago - haven't seen him much since then though. It's a pity, he was looking pretty good :)

I'd also suggest watching Overload and Sol Contingency, as far as games go. We're not quite sure which one will be the best, but people have their favorites already.

Re: How do I get the red key in Anthology?

You have to take out three control panels at the top; there's a different path to each one. The hardest one to find is probably the red/lava-themed path. Somewhere you might have run across this funny flat area with the square pillars all different colors; the entrance is tucked away somewhere in th...

Not for long. Re: Never 10! Block Windows 10

A question. If you currently have Windows 7 Pro, why won't MS upgrade you automatically to Windows 10 Pro during the process, where you supposedly have user control of Windows Update, or don't they offer that version to us lowly home users during the free upgrade process? I don't think the Pro vers...

Wouldn't be surprised if the confusingly-designed upgrade prompt is responsible for a lot of the issues, if it can in fact not happen automatically. (I haven't tried to test whether having recommended updates installed by default would install it without asking.)

"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."

Given that MS has denied that users are forced to upgrade, I'm going to have to lean towards incompetence (because upgrade-without-a-choice events are happening). It's still a fiasco.

With this thing starting this weekend, we could do with some purpose-built 4v4 maps, actually, championship or no. There aren't a lot of great levels for games that large, especially that permit more complex teamwork (flanking, diversion, terrain control, etc).

Yeah, this is the point where I'd really like to have detailed traces... which DLE doesn't have.

Thinking about that, though, it's not really as if that's impossible... I just need to be shut in a room and forced to work on this editor for a week or two.

Re: Can't select cubes in DLE by clicking?

Huh. It almost sounds like a hardware problem. Or drivers. It doesn't look like there's anything I can do from DLE's side - the input messages being sent from Windows don't tell you which mouse is sending the input, so presumably DLE just isn't being sent button input from that external mouse.

In terms of C++, I picture the MFC IDE you mentioned to be somewhat similar to VB Visual Studio. I Imagine there are functions for each window control's event like in Visual Basic. DLE doesn't use Java, so that shouldn't have been a problem. Can you bring up a menu by Shift+right click on the level view in the editor? The current version is 1.12.27. 1.12 is where the custom texture manager was introduced - while I was making that I also modified DLE's behavior to be much more careful about saving custom textures. It used to throw away anything it didn't see used in the level (dating back to DMB2). When you're usi...

Re: Glass window texture for walls like on TEW

Well, people don't usually plug-and-play with POGs. Typically you replace individual textures - there are a few reasons for this: 1) The POG might have a lot of extra textures you don't need (i.e. you might not be using them) 2) The POG might replace textures you didn't want to replace. If you build...

Yeah, .pog files are used for that. You need one of them per level that has custom textures, and they generally have to be placed in the mission HOG like you said. If you're using DLE 1.12.x, there is an "Edit textures (POG)" option in the File menu that lets you replace textures for the c...

Two issues here: 1) The level file name in ixion.msn ("ixion.rdl") doesn't match the filename of the level in the HOG file ("ixion ce.rdl"). 2) Descent (except apparently D2X-XL) doesn't support spaces in filenames - it confuses it. Renaming the level file to ixion.rdl appears to...
