Not quite related, but I'll say this anyway. I've been using someone else's computer to do gaming, and the hardware was all brand new when it was bought last year. However, it's slower than my old system of 2003. Reason: too much crap loaded. I'd guess that about 70 processes are running, individual...

A couple of things bother me about 2.0 also. Have to go into about:config just to disable the automatic backing up of bookmarks and displaying of favicons for bookmark links. Favicons, btw, bloat the size of the bookmarks.html because their data are put in it. No option to set what protocols / files...

Archived GameEdit Tutorials
As everyone knows, GameEdit.com died in 2004 but the tutorials had been saved, which I sent to Nightmare sometime after and which he fixed. Then not too long ago his site was taken down by *******s. :( In November of last year I fixed the mess I had (using only Notepad, ugh -- never doing that again...

A most excellent series. I've watched the whole thing through several times, minus the major filler arcs. I've seen bits of it, but I didn't find it that funny. When it tries to be funny, it isn't (Example: Little Buggy's Big Adventure). When it is being silly, it is ( Example: Episode 102. My #1 fa...

I personally don't care for the way Descent 3 looks, in general. Some of my levels, like Elysium, try to get the dark, gritty corridor theme going - but it isn't the same. If I could point to a single thing, it would probably be the lighting. It is horribly oversaturated and overbright in every off...

Awesome Free Software
I was marveling at a lot of the free software that's out there and felt like making a tribute to it all by informing everyone of the really great free software that I know of (which is, to say, not a lot). Add whatever free software you know of if you want. Apache HTTP Server http://www.apache.org/ ...

No, that's...different. Acceleration is instant response, but it's slow and gradual. That's a physics aspect that even Descent 3 had, and was obvious once the keyboard ramping was set to 0. Keyboard ramping is a programmed delay where the ship is prevented from responding to a movement key pressed f...

Ship Movement Question
In making the ship move like Descent 1's, is \"keyboard ramping\" (hardcoded controller lag that prevents the ship from responding for X.XX seconds) used or physics weight / momentum to give it the heavy feel? I'd suspect the latter since it's common place today, whereas controller lag was...

Another note, for complex objects, a less complete collision mesh can be created and referenced to. The editor has build in collision shapes such as cubes, spheres, and pill shapes, but to lower the resource usage in collisions, it is best to create a secondary low detail mesh for collision purpose...

Developing Levels Now
You can create content for Core Decision right now. Pick your favorite 3D application and get started modeling and painting -- there's your toolset. The engine imports .obj and .x files. The engine uses a poly-mesh system that allows for extremely detailed shapes and structures. Okay, so we know we...

If the game is going to be as dark as Descent 1/2, there better be a powerful headlight that doesn't run out after 10 seconds of use. I liked how Descent 3 had a long distance spotlight and a more CPU intense floodlight that lit up everything within a short distance, the option for toggling between ...

So far I have had no trouble with my Windows machine, and (by the use of a software package called wireshark http://www.wireshark.org/) I have not seen it send out one suspicious packet, anywhere.
