Really really big battery

Post by Nitrofox125 »

Does anyone know where I can find really really big batteries for sale? By big I mean 250-750AH sustained output for 24+ hours.

Thanks Image

but could you cough up that much $$$ for it and the charging time would be long too. What do you need it for?

Well either you are asking about Amps and Hours at a certain voltage or you are asking AH (Amp-Hours) at a certain voltage. So what voltage is that? 12VDC?
What you are looking for is a battery array and charging controller. Look at maybe home/commercial solar equipment.
I don't think one battery will do. What are we doing?

Ya, this is sort of what I was getting at. Whats the application, voltage, current? Don't forget... E=I*R and P=I*E

Try someplace that sells UPSs, like Powerware.

Yes, this is actually for a project. "Money is no object" so cost doesn' t matter.

This would be basically the same for a home solar array, but this would be for a home tidal generator Image

Ever seen these? Pretty sweet: www.engb.com/Pages/demo.htm

We started, and found out that one produces 90-250kW. So then we went about figuring out how much it takes to power one home, and we figure out it's only 1.25 kW!!!! So we can power 200 houses Image

But I'll check into that stuff, thanks.

i always thought that solar systems used arrays of car batterys (well, prolly not exactly car batterys, but they look like car batterys).

hey how about a big flywheel? Image this aussie invention that has me amazed is a roadtrain-truck that uses a huge flywheel to store power (down hills etc blah) instead of brakes, and it works supposedly quite well and they are now doing deals with teh trucking industry. imagine the weight and speed of that flywheel, damn if that thing exploded it would look SO COOL!!!
