Looking For A Linux Modem

Hey, well I'm starting to like Linux quite well and since I don't do much gaming on-line and most of my work is done off-line anymore I was thinking about using Linux on a new partition. Anyway, I set it up but I discovered a rather large problem. My modem is unfortunatly a winmodem. Yes I use 56k, which I hate but unfortunatly can not fix by simply moving, at least for now. Anyway, I was wondering what people would recommend as a good 56k Linux modem?

anything external that connects thru the serial port.

You can use a winmodem but you will need to install some software so Linux can use it. I forgot what its called since its been a while since I did any "Linuxing".

Only a few winmodems are supported. If you have one with a Lucent chipset, for example, you're screwed.

If you go to your distro's home page - in there support area should be a hardware list that they certify as compatiable with there distro.
