Adult theme, not pornographic...

Post by Hostile »

I don't even know where to begin with this one. Has the human condition degraded so far that sex and marriage with robots is a reality of our future? I mean will it be a reality to the point of requiring societal legislation? Sexual relations with robots seems ridiculous to me, but I guess there are people out there who are human-interactionally challenged (you know... Crown, Thunderbunny, etc). :P

And I wonder what was going on in this guy's head when he came up with this idea for a dissertation? LOL

The marriage aspect of it sounds a tad far fetched, but i think sex with robots will be a booming industry, and why not? It's only masturbation with a complicated dildo after all.

I also reckon it will be more popular with women than men.

Bring it on i say.

A woman who is very attractive, good in bed and who also doesn't talk back? We've been looking for this for years.

I figured you'd be 'all over it' Hoser. 0-2 is a the scorecard, no? ;)

This would sure be better than dating, marriage and kids. All three come with at least a hundred problems of their own, and few benefits. What a waste of your life.

For those who do sign up for those problems, and when (not if) the woman shaves off 90% of her hair, wears nothing but sweatpants to accommodate her increasingly fat ass, and totally ignores her husband...you'll be happy to know that this technology is on the way. Hell, even a Realldoll is a better choice, and probably better in bed.

:)

(Disclaimer from the morons: Am I talking about everybody? No. Only the 60-70% of marriages that crash and burn in divorce, and the other 20% that fall into sexless, loveless voids)

LOL.... I didn't know anyone remembered any of that. Heh. Actually, I'm happily married finally. Over 5 years now with nothing but bliss on the horizon :) I guess that makes me 1-2 now? Of course, the female "crazy gene" could always change that to 0-3. I just hope that doesn't happen..... It probably wouldn't be good for my 347 victims heh.

By the way, I'm retiring from my naval service after over 21 years on February 1st. So when we start having Descent 4 lans, I won't miss any!! :P

ROFL, False Start! You moved before the snap...... Indeed it will be a good day. :)

And I think I agree with Merlin. Men are just sicker than women when it comes to sex (in general).

What I don't understand is how they will fill the void of uncertainty with a robot. A lot of people say that it would be great to eliminate uncertainty in their human partner (well men mostly), but doesn't that make a relationship more worth it somehow?

\"Realdolls\" which move, essentially then... I'd post a link but that might be construed as pr0n... And yes, Flabby...they now have male ones. Somehow, though, I suspect that men are their main customers for these as well, considering how the male Realdolls are described as having fully functioning rear apertures.

That and the fact that, appearances to the contrary, IMHO women tend to be more practical about sexual matters than men...

LOL...so everyone can have fun huh!

What do you mean by practical? I know there are 'male dildos'--mechanical objects that bring a man to orgasm, but i think it's far more prevalent among females...or maybe i just know more women that need new batterys every couple of days. ;-)

Sex and porn has revolutionized the net industry...why not robotics?

In general, women are much less visual and tactile than men sexually speaking. In fact, supposedly a fairly large number of orgasmic women can bring themselves to orgasm entirely mentally.

Needless to say, that's very unusual for men. Physical contact, pr0n, props etc & so forth are much more common.

Specifically addressing the \"practical\" comment - sexual perversions (of any sort, including fetishism etc), while not entirely a male field, are much less prevalent among women. The wiring is just different. It also probably helps that, as Testi noted, sex is readily and easily available to most females, whereas the opposite applies to men. Therefore, if a female wants release they have merely to ask. Solo sex for most women is merely a matter of less hassles than necessity =) Once again the opposite applies for men... who would say the hassles were worth it anyway... at least while their lower heads were doing the thinking for them.

I'm willing to be wrong here - convince me.

Go 0-5 and keep that attitude :) What are they, $5K? [edit $7k!] Helluva lot cheaper than a few divorces!

In Japan, they're on the young side:

They are the same as Realdolls...based on the other pictures, I'm guessing they were aiming at 13-14 years old, with, of course, 22yo boobs and arse.

everything is right here in the end of the article:
THE ARTICLE wrote:Arkin noted that "if we allow robots to become a part of everyday life and bond with them, we'll have to ask questions about what's going to happen to our social fabric. How will they change humanity and civilization? I don't have any answers, but I think it's something we need to study. There's a real potential for intimacy here, where humans become psychologically and emotionally attached to these devices in ways we wouldn't to a vibrator."

Levy is currently writing a paper on the ethical treatment of robots.
Issues of xenophobia and the definition of life. It's stock standard sci-fi.

Roid I fail to see how that part of the article explains how because people are crazy, we should create laws for them to benefit from tax dollars, which of course is what it will come down to in congress (at the very least). Are people going to be able to claim a freakin robot on their taxes as a dependent or file jointly. Forget all of the ridiculous mental failures on the part of the \"person\" who has fallen in love with a non-living synthetic humanoid and decided to have sex with and marry it because they weren't parented properly or given an opportunity to or taught to interact with human beings in a meaningful way.

And vanilla sex bores. Heh. LOL@Roid.....

/ME see's a Woody Allen Sleeper movie analogy here somewhere
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

yeah sorry that was pretty vague of me.

if you could or couldn't \"marry\" something would be based on whether or not that THING is capably of entering into a legal contract. It would involve questions of sentience, life, those sorts of things.

Only after then would you be talking about issues of Paraphilia, \"ie: having sex with anything but a living human is weird\".

If a robot had the sentience to be able to enter into a legal contract like a MARRIAGE CONTRACT, then i think we'd have a lot more to talk about than just \"omg weird sex!\".
You'd be asking questions like \"can i enter into a platonic relationship with this thing?\" before anyone started asking about meaningful sex.

What i quoted was where the article was touching on that point - that SENTIENCE and treatment/recognition of another lifeform is the more interesting issue here.

I mean, we are talking about ROBOTS. We are not talking about dildos. a dildo can't get married. And is anyone saying that dildos are weird and \"holy ★■◆● people are having sex with dildos!\" ?

That's the real problem with anime. Many of the female figures are between 10 and 14 with a 20 something body. That's messed up.

it's the other way around. In Anime the characters generally always look younger than they officially are to appeal to the Lolita complex. But the official ages are merely a tacked on "see we're not total sickos" disclaimer pasted-on after the fact to give some semblance of decency - it gives them a form of deniability to protect themselves with when characters that are clearly under 12 are playing hide the tenticles.

In Anglo(western) dramas though, the young characters are clearly played by older actors. This always creeps me out with it's "wow she's pretty hot for a 13 year old" vibe. But it's a necessity coz young actors are useless for lack of talent and experience.
An 27 year old actor playing the part of a 13 year old kid is the way things work here.

ooOOoooohhh!

Kinda like that gal who plays \"Moaning Myrtle\" in the Harry Potter movies. She's a 40 something yo actor playing a 14 yo (and is dead) coming on to a 15 yo played by a 17 yo. o_0

...it all very clear now.

Actually that isn't true for many series, but there are enough that any casual anime fan would notice it. The worst ones are targeted almost exclusively at the extreme Japanese otaku market segment. Generally speaking the more "moe" something is, the more it will probably fit that mold. It is unfortunate most people lump all anime into the same category as "Moe-tan" and "Kodomo no Jikan" though. (Or their opposite where some characters breasts are bigger than their head.)

Just like American TV or anywhere else: the more you watch, the more crap you will see.

Well, what were you expecting? In Japan, picking an older woman as a model is the equivilent of picking a fat woman as a model in western countries.
Also, there's the thing that Japanese woman do look younger than those at the other side of the world. I would have guessed that that model would be about 18-20.

I believe the thought going into his head was something along the lines of "hmm... as my job as a journalist, how can I report something that'll sound interesting to my audience, regardless of who believes it?"

There's no reason to treat a robot any different than a toaster or a microwave... And, as pointed out, how can you marry something that can't legitimetly enter a contract? Any agreement on the part of the robot is just programming!

Yep. And until that changes (ie: questions are asked about sentience, life, self-determination) it's just a dildo.

the research tree would be like this:
dildo
- vibrator
- - ★■◆●ing machine

non-human-contact non-communicative masturbatory sex
- imagination
- - porn
- - - inflatable doll
- - - - realdoll

personalised phone sex (ie: with familure partner)
- non personalised mass-market phone sex
- - que driven roll-play mass-market phone sex (barely exists)
- - - artificial inteligence phone sex

★■◆●ing machine + realdoll + AI phone sex + robotics = SEX ROBOT.

There is a deeply interesting world of weird sex out there.

i like some of these fetishes myself, and i've come across many others with their own fetishes (this is the internet) that i don't share. I don't get it, but so what? Does this mean i should hate it? It's deeply interesting, don't be afraid.

Here's an example: i don't get the whole \"big tits\" thing. But it's an incredibly common fetish. I don't get it, but why hate it?

Heh. Sorry I'm traveling and haven't been online for a few days to answer.

I didn't realize money had to be in it for me to open a discussion on the boards here. :) With all of Thunderbunny's mindless fear mongering (among others), I thought it would be different to talk about something developing on the edges of our social fabric. You know, different..... :P I will try to refrain from distracting anyone in the future heh.

No wait - I said that! Better ignore it.

Me, I can't afford a robot sex slave. I have only my sock puppet sex slave. Except...well...I ain't got no puppet on there yet.

OK, seriously. If they could make like Nexus Six for real. You wouldn't hit that? Sean Young from Blade Runner, bro?

You know what cracked me up?
rediculous article wrote:There are companies that already sell realistic sex dolls, "and it's just a matter of adding some electronics to them to add some vibration," he said, or endowing the robots with a few audio responses. "That's fairly primitive in terms of robotics, but the technology is already there."
Many men would read that and say, "Great. Now I can have sex with TWO beings who can do nothing but repeat themselves over and over."

There's also this gem:
aghh, this article is crap wrote:The main benefit of human-robot marriage could be to make people who otherwise could not get married happier, "people who find it hard to form relationships, because they are extremely shy, or have psychological problems, or are just plain ugly or have unpleasant personalities," Levy said. "Of course, such people who completely give up the idea of forming relationships with other people are going to be few and far between, but they will be out there."
Imagine breaking the news!

Maybe something like...Hey, Mabel, I'm real sorry but you're so ugly that no living primate of any kind would have sex with you, much less a human. But don't dispair! The new Robo-pecker 5000 will be just the thing for you!

Or maybe......Hey Phil - you're not totally repulsive physically, but you're the biggest douche of all time so forget about sex with another warm blooded creature. But wait, before you saw off your useless and despised gonads...take a look at the Robo-throater 9000!

This takes the cake:
Wowurkidding wrote:"If you have pedophiles and you let them use a robotic child, will that reduce the incidence of them abusing real children, or will it increase it?" Arkin asked. "I don't think anyone has the answers for that yet..."
I know the answer to this question: WTF is wrong with you, dude? Hmm. Setting up an industry to cater to child molestors' libidos? Offering them facsimile children to boff? Gun fetish? That has got to be the coolest fetish to have... ever...

I agree with WillyP, marriage to robots is just... devoids the whole contractual obligation. Besides, a robot can't love anything, and no matter if you support gay marriage, or a polygamist, it is basically people who feel romantic love (at least for the first year) to eachother. It would be kinda like marrying a hooker.

And as for doing kid-dolls, as long as it isn't an actual kid I really don't give a flying fig newton.
