Gaming problem UT2004

Post by KtheC' »

Has anybody had problems with UT2004 since the patch game out?
I can play the game for only a few minutes before the whole computer crashes and reboots.
This didn't happen before the patch.
I have installed the latest sound and vid drivers with no luck. This is the only game that does this.
Even went back to an older driver, again no luck.

Running:
AMD XP2600
1gb PC3200 Corsair ram
ATI 9600 Pro 128mb vid card.

Please help. Thanks

I don't think so.
I have plenty of fans and the power supply is 500w
So I think I'm ok there.
When in game I run about 50°

When you uninstall the video drivers, do you make sure all the files are gone? Did you use the Detonator Destroyer or the equivelant for ATI?

What version of Direct X?
Try turning down AA or FSAA.

When I change drivers or delete a program I use
JV16 POwer Tools. It is a really good program
and does a very good job cleaning up after an
uninstall.
I usually have the application preference box checked
for both AA and FSAA. I have tried undchecking them and turning them down. Same thing.

I'm thinking I will need to uninstall the game and reinstall it. Then once it is gone installing the ATI driver, then the game, then the patch.
Would the community map pack have anything to do with this? I did install that around the same time as the patch.

The map pack could be it. Might try playing UT before install that pack and see if it crashes.

I re-installed the whole game and the patch.
It seemed to play fine.
I did not install the map pack.
Hopefully I will be ok.
Thanks for everyone's help! :)

I did a fresh install of the game and everything worked fine. Then I installed that patch, again it seemed all worked well.
This morning I remembered to try the benchmark.
Out of the 3 I tried 1 succeeded in getting all the way through without crashing. The benchmark is without sound so that is ruled out.
I am throwing my arms up in the air. I have no clue.
Everything else on my computer works fine.
I played BF Vietnam for about 1 hour last night with no problems. :(

One last thing, I know that the game can be played in Direct 3d, open gl, software, d3render.
I am currently running it using direct 3d. Has anybody used any of the other settings? Do they work well. Am I using the wrong setting here? And could this be my problem?

Have you tried PLAYING the game? Perhaps the benchmark is the problem?

Per Atari :)

Disable 3rd party applications running in the background
Check the DMA setting for your CD ROM Drive(s)
Make sure you have enough free hard drive space

Not very helpful, unfortunately...

A brief search of the Atari forums shows that the random crashes are a known issue. It appears that this might be an AMD-specific (or more likely with AMD) issue to my admittedly skimming eyes.

Yeah I did last night. Played a round of instant action. Everything went fine. But there are times when everything worked fine in the past.
The benchmark thing is weird, since it uses limited
drivers.
I did get pretty good FPS's though. No complaints there.
I am going to try using another render device and see
what happens. THink I will try opengl. D3 always ran
really good with that, maybe this will as well.
Thanks WA

I run it in d3d and have no problems with cat4.4 drivers. Haven't had a chance to install 4.5 yet. Umm, ut2004 runs better in d3d than ogl on ati cards, you can try opengl, but i'd stick to d3d.

sorry, don't know what to recommend on how to fix it ;/

Try going into bios and drop your agp apeture to 64. See if that does anything.

Already have the aperture set at 64.
I now am having problems playing other games. I think this patch corrupted some other files and now
I can't play BF1942.
I am thinking that I may have to reformat and at least get it back to where it was before the patch was ever even downloaded.

I did a complete wipe and re-install.
Things are back to normal now.
No way I'm reinstalling UT2004 till they make a patch to fix the patch.
