Doom 3 GOLD

Post by CDN_Merlin »

DOOM 3 GOLD! 10:31 am - Jeff Tom - games: action (0 comments)
id CEO Todd Hollenshead has announced Doom 3 is gold, set to be out for retailers on August 3 as we reported first and at all stores by August 5, though some earlier. Enjoy!

Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing! It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made.
So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with your local retailer for that information.

Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves. The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (que Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland). This isn't because we don't have love for you folks outside the U.S., but the localization and manufacturing process takes a bit longer outside the U.S. where we will have JVC run 24/7 to get the units built. I guess the European manufacturers prefer to give their employees nights and weekends off. Go figure!

The champagne is flowing here at id and smiles abound! I'll update again with some DOOM 3 preparation tips (not what hardware to buy - you'll have to wait for a programmer for that sort of thing). In the meantime, I want to see those "DOOM 3 GOLD!!!" threads set new records for swamping message board servers, destroying productivity, and post counts ;-)

Recapping today's headlines....DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

BTW, in every one of those threads reply "D3 is Descent 3...Doom 3 is just lame." ;)

I doubt anyone there would know WTF Descent 3 is. A lot of people who played D1/D2 never knew that D3 was made.

Not really. When you consider that HL2 will be the better game it makes little difference :P

*drools* GIMMIE GIMMIE GIMMIE

Well, I know what I'll be sinking some money into in a few months....a new vid card. The comp I built a year ago specifically so it would be Doom3/HL2 ready is probably on the low end of the SysReqs by now :P

Reason I don't really care is because I don't have a system that can play it the way It needs to be played. Sure, I have all the parts, just not processing power nor the RAM.

Need to look into getting the new mobo/processor/RAM/PSU/Tower/Cooling parts that I need. Everything else I've got.

I have a system that will run these games right now.. not to the full max of course.

But why would I be stupid and buy all the high end stuff right now. Which will become low end at the end of Q4 2004. This is when all the new socket motherboards, Native PCIExpress Video Cards(instead of AGP), and of course DDR2 roll out ???

My upgrade time is JAN of next year for a reason, at that time, this box becomes a Graphic and Sound Workstation or My Pr0n Collection Server

But feel free to send me all you old stuff that was made this year. When the rest of you upgrade and no longer have a need for parts you only used for a few months!

I didn't say I was gonna upgrade this year. That would be just stupid. When you really think about it though bubba, no matter when you buy all your parts, whatever you get is going to be obsolete in a very short amount of time.

The real object is to get all that you need that can run any-all games/software released in the next couple of years. With this type of stuff you're always working with a 2-3 year window it seems.

DooM 3 will have no dvd version

"I know some gamers are hoping to use the DVD players on their machines for something other than watching movies, but there are downsides," he said. "For us the cost of the goods and the cost of the replication and having to make two masters just isn't worth it."

another reasion y i wont buy it

D3 (2) and Merc(1) => 3 CDs ... he|| whats the problem with another CD or two?

Doom 1 was my first multiplayer experience ... we used to play it over the ethernet backbone at lunchtime here at the Army Missile Lab (late 80s). I loved Doom1 and Doom2. I'll spend the bux and try it out as I will HL2.

DVD players are still not common enough to justfiy a DVD release. Most people won't check the box if they are going to buy it, and imagine the hassle when you need to take it back.

If you are going to choose a medium, its either all-out DVD, or all-out CD.

I don't think HL2 will have a DVD version as a general retail release either(why give people more reason not to use steam?)

Unreal Tournament 2004 got away with it though. And after the "Special Edition" supplies were exhausted, fans were beating down the doors for a reissue of the DVD release, which Atari eventually did. I have to believe Doom 3's popularity has to be somewhere around that level. I don't blame iD for not doing a DVD release, but at the same time, I am a bit surprised.

6 cds, good lord. I heard so far, that it was awesome. And these are from some harsh critics. So this game should be interesting.......in 2 to 3 years from now, when I'll finally be able to play it.

Went to ebgames yesterday and threw down a pre-order. This is going to be a good summer / fall indeed. Doom 3 + Half Life 2. Oh my.

Of course everyone knows that HL2 is going to blow Doom3 out of the water.

This probably the right way to do sequels. Not to suck all the blood out of them right away.

From what I was reading in PC Gamer, Doom 3 will be able to read your system and set the video parameters accordingly. You'll have to read the article for full details. A good vid card with lotso memory will help the most with the cpu tagging along. 512m of system ram will be a must.
