My New Roomate Loves Descent!

My new room-mate loves Descent! After showing him D3 we played the first 8 levels in Co-op in three nights.
Turns out he has a Pilots License and totally loves the six degrees of freedom and can relate to the concept. He's pretty advanced for a new player and is able to pilot his ship without too much wall-banging and \"upside down stuck moments\".
He also likes the bot AI, however he does dislike the thief bot.

He even put in a separate NIC card to hook up to one of my routers near his room so he can join up with the lowest ping
One day soon I'll lead him to the mayhem and slaughter in the MP world! Brought back memories of when I first discovered Descent... he's definitely hooked!

Hopefully he doesn't get used to living too long, because multiplayer doesn't allow that luxury like co-op does.

Excellent!
My younger brother is just starting to get back into D3, as well. Maybe Descent has more life in it than we knew!

Technically this is the video game equivalent of CPR.

I almost had him convinced to go online just a few minutes ago... then he said, \"No way I'll just get worked!\" That and he just finished pounding 4 beer, (Canuckian Beer) at buddies house and felt he was no longer in any shape to play. I countered the drunken flying will help gameplay because of the randomness of the flight line

If he thinks playing single will prepare him to play multi he's sadly mistaken. I had played D1 and D2 for like 3 years and I thought I was a hot player. Then I got Kali and got my (_o_) handed to me for another 3 months till I got the hang of it.

Tell him do not play Subway Dancer or Abend if he wants to get good!

Hehe next time I get some I'll give you a PM and you can come out and visit and help me drink the 88 glasses I get out of each canister, comes with downstairs futon within stumbling distance to half bath included
However I've never gotten ill from the stuff, even after several Liters, foggy and dry if I didn't drink water before bed, but never a hangover... for real.
You think that was liquid crack? That was a light Lager, 4.2-4.5%. Try the Dark Bitter at 7%, or my favorite... his Christmas Bok 6.5% with outstanding flavor and very crisp and clean finishes. I need someone coming from the flatlands on their way West to deliver them though. Or maybe I can bribe a Courier Driver that likes beer... Hmmm.
*Oh and I want to start my buddy off in CTF, the competition and skill level is fiercer for a new player but I learned more in there than most Anarchy games.

Yeah, good at playing Subway Dancer. I'd recommend him playing as many different levels as he can. Have him play against you to get a feel for what NOT to do, and give him tips as you go. After a few weeks of that, he'll be ready to go live and lose with dignity online.
And, awesome, man. We can always use another player.

Introduce him to REAL Descent.

(Thats
D1 for all you newbies out there) I guarantee he'll like that a bit better.

D1 is for the people who can look past the graphics and general lack of a modern interface/control system (granted, it's better than Doom in the latter respect, but still). I don't care, but people playing D3 usually do.

Huh? I've played it twice in the past month, and the game has always filled up (8 or 10 players).
Anyway, yeah, it's a good level, very well-spaced.

Inane music, cute Final Fantasy birdies, and mass drivers.
Who could ash for anything more?
