LoveGLaDOS: a Portal map by Grax

Hello Descent pals.

I made a new Portal map and I figured there'd be some fans of the game here. Designing a Portal level is the closest feeling I've gotten to designing a Descent level and, um... it's a damn good feeling.

Download

The map, titled \"How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love GLaDOS\" (or \"LoveGLaDOS\" for short) is available at these locations:

Additional notes

Hope you enjoy it, and I hope this is the right descentBB forum subsection for this type of topic. All feedback on the map is appreciated.

Now I'm wishing I'd bought the Orange Box for my PC rather than my Xbox. Portal changed my life! Now I'm starving for more Portal.

Whereas the real Descent was released 14 years ago.

DooM II > Descent 1 > Portal > Descent 3 >> Descent2

Yes it has. My hole is a nice comfy place so why leave.

Looked at trailer and looks a bit cerebral. So all you get is a acme portal gun and off you go?

Lets lay this down saying that everyone it wrong, and
Descent1\\2\\3 > ∞

:D Really, its very variable from person to person... Pick what ya like and stick with it. :)

You know, that's not a bad description. The great thing about Portal is that it is a great example of something we don't see enough of in game design - complexity through simplicity.

After all, the "rules" of Portal are very simple. You can fire a blue portal. You can fire an orange portal. You can travel through the portals and bring objects through the portals.

But from this basic premise comes something so elegantly designed. And really, even though the game is pretty short, you have to get to that last level. People tell me "I got to level 16 and I'm wondering, is that all there is to it?" No, no. That last level is something else. Probably one of the most memorable last levels in video games.

Haven't had a chance to convince the wife to look at the new level (I don't actually play, I just watch her play.)

On a slightly related note, the sheet music to the credits song can be found here.

Grax, have you played with the new editor for UT3?

You can do some pretty cool stuff.. if you can tolerate the auto-save.

I used UT3 last summer for about 3 months during an internship, but I haven't struck out on my own with it yet. What kind of stuff have you been doing with it, Duper?

unrealed is more of a resource manager than a level editor.

On our project at work, there's an auto-save toggle in the lower-right corner of the UnrealEd window (the little disk with a green checkbox icon). I don't know if we added that or not, but either way, you can enable and disable autosave in the BaseEditor.ini (DefaultEditor.ini?) file.

I have all of valves games installed and it is encroaching on almost 20 gigs of space, i like half life 2 the dark levels where a flashlight is a given, not to mention poison headcrabs.
