Remember DB Cooper?

Anybody around here old enough to remember the DB Cooper skyjacking? They may have found his parachute finally! We'll have to see what the investigation turns up, it may or may not be his parachute, but it is an older model. No body was found near it though.

I always hoped he got away with it. Not that I encourage hijacking, but you have to admire the set of balls on that dude.

A related factoid:

Before the DB Cooper incident, the air stairs on a 727 could be opened in flight. After the incident, the FAA mandated that carriers (and perhaps Boeing itself, I'm not really sure which) install a little device on the outer skin of the aircraft adjacent to the air stairs. In flight, it weather vanes so a piece of steel plate keeps the air stairs from opening. It's called the cooper stopper. Kind of neat.

Heh, there was a Far Side cartoon where his parachute dropped him into an enclosure full of Doberman Pinschers (caption: \"The Untold Ending of D.B. Cooper\") :)

LOL That's a good one. Haven't heard or read anything here whether the FBI has found out anything about the recent parachute find yet. You'd think that they would know the type of parachute that they supplied Cooper with back then. Don't they keep records or track of these things? Duh!

Here's a time line for anybody interested in the history.

Yeah, the parachute that was found is an older silk model. The guy that packed the original chute said that the one he packed was made out of nylon.

Will we ever find out what happened to the skyjacker? Only if someone finds his body I guess. There are a lot of hunters prowling the Washington forests. SOMEONE will find SOMETHING someday if he died after the jump.

LOL on the Google search list!
