If the cop had been just a little bit closer to the barrier, OUCH! Very lucky for him!
This scenario almost happened to me when I was driving back to college one year. This truck carrying tires in it's bed was coming towards me in the opposite direction on a 2 lane road. Out of the back of this truck comes a large truck tire still mounted on it's wheel. The thing literally bounces off the road right in front of my car, goes overhead, barely clearing my car and then bounces between my car and the car following me, missing both of us! It continued to bounce off into a field where it came to rest.
I was so shocked, I didn't even stop the car to realize that if that wheel fallen out A HALF A SECOND earlier or even 1 second later, it probably would have gone through my windshield and killed me since I was going 55 MPH at the time!
