wtf google?

Post by Vertigo 99 »

Ok, is my computer just infested with pop-ups and spyware, or does google now do the following things:

1) A pop-up while clicking the "search" button.

2) Upon your search, you get a page of "sponsors," rather than your search results.

Yea; so....
WTF GOOGLE!

Now i understand that google needs to make some cash, thats all good. But really, is an annoying pop-up REALLY that necessary? Its really getting on my nerves >_<

Google will usually have a "Sponsored Links" column off to the right, but if you're getting pop-ups, you've got spyware.

i just ran ad-aware 6; as far as i can see, i dont have any spyware...? i really dont understand wtf is going on. i was searching fine yesterday. and krags, its not a column of ads - i'm used to that. this is a full page of "sponsors." a full page. you have to click page "2" of search results to get past the sponsors...

Joo got spywarez.

Make sure you have the latest definitions from ad-aware, and try out Spybot Search and Destroy as well. Both in concert are supposed to nail pretty much everything.

And never see a pop-up ad again. :D

But if you absolutely must stick with flea-ridden Internet Explorer, at least get something like KillAd or the Google Toolbar.

I [heart] Firefox. I've forgotten what a world without pop-ups are. It's beautiful....like running through a pasture naked with a cool wind coming from the north, north west, with only trees in the distant view.

Or something like that. :)

Disturbing...

I never see any popups on google no matter what browser I happen to be using at the time.

The latest Nvidia display drivers (56.72 I think) have a built in popup blocker for IE.

Telling him to use a popup blocker or run firefox is like telling a guy to not walk on a broken foot. He'll still have spyware, even if the symptoms aren't as obvious.

AdAware, and Spybot S&D are the two major tools out there. Also look into getting Hijack This! to look to see what else may be entrenched in your system.

There's another good tool here that's more specific though. You might want to try it: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Since switching to Firefox I've run both spybot and adaware multiple times out of habit. Neither has turned up anything.
