The last 14 minutes will kill me.
I have a new image to put here, along a similar lines to the "error executing executable files" popup. This time though, it is a time prediction of, well, 178 years:

Seeing as it's done 8% it would seem that I've already waited a long time....

When I started the Steam download for Portal 2, I remember it starting at something like "12 million years remaining" and then hastily revising ts estimate.
"Darn, I'll never get to play this game. But maybe some strange evolutionary descendant of humans will..."

Heh, I remember how that dialog used to estimate times upward of 10^6 minutes, despite already being half done.
Virtualbox's clone VM dialog also suffers from this, although it's at least self-consistent in a way, since the time estimation is consistent with the progress bar's inaccurate progress. It takes about 98% of the clone job to move the progress bar 2%, then the other 2% of the clone job to move the progress bar the remaining 98%.

The
new Win8 copy dialog is actually really well done, IMHO. Rather than looking at the estimated time, and trying to decipher whether the transfer speed has spiked/dipped, you get a nice integrated graphical view of the progress as well as the speed history:
