Don't let Neural DSP fool you with their advertising for the https://neuraldsp.com/plugins/parallax bass plugin - it does way more than spiked nutcup metal tones. These tones are pretty distorted but I'm experimenting. See the point of the plugin is to split the bass direct signal into 3 (bass that can be compressed, mid w/distortion, and hi w/distortion for definition - you establish a thick controlled bottom and cut through with the other 2. It is called Parallax which is very Descent although I don't think of bass with Descent, I think of dripping Hendrix Band of Gypsies solos whilst using vauss.

In this pigslop you can hear how the distortion has a real gooey smoothing effect within the context of the synth and kick drum. If you hit the string too hard or if the bass by itself there is this sandpaper grit of the Neural DSP distortion - but in a mix is very pleasant.

Also, you can see that I dont use the Impulse Response cabinet simulator of the Parallax plugin - I use either the Darkglass Ultra cabinet simulator or the Ampeg SVT suites sim. The Parallax amp sim is way way way too much studded leather nutcup bass tone when Im looking for 1970s or maybe Prince fusion bass.
