Descent Dodgeball (Coming soon!)
by Liquid Fire & Jon the Great

You're back in gym class again, this time in a pyro. Put your skills to the test in a classic game of Dodgeball!
Designed for Team Anarchy ONLY! You'll see why in a sec. ;)
The gym is divided in half with a red side and a blue side by an invisible barrier in the center of the gym that only the dodgeball can pass through. So the players are forced to stay on their side of the gym. Each team has their own color dodgeball which they fire at the opposing team. The dodgeball is an instant hit kill so when you tag a player from the other team they are 'out' until they press spacebar. Since this is team team anarchy, your goal is to beat the opposing team by tagging as many players as possible.
Each team spawns in side rooms to the left and right of the main room and the dodgeballs are usually found in bins or on racks.

One of the side rooms. The gun you see is required to fire the dodgeballs on the red team.

Our thanks to Capm, Fusion, and Scottris who were able to participate in early beta tests with us on very short notice.

We're planning on having a larger beta test on a dedicated server sometime in the near future, to test the capacity of the level. Let us know if you're interested and we'll e-mail you the level when we decide on a date and time.

From what I've heard of this game, it'll be great! Drop me a mail if you need anything, custom ship models, etc.

At this point, the custom objects and weapons are done. We just need to make a few modifications to one or two rooms and do the beta test. After that, it's done!

This sounds cool, but how do we pick up a ball?

Posted: Sun Oct 31, 2004 3:43 pm
by Jon the Great
The balls are powerups. You need to pick up the gun powerup first though becuase the balls are just ammo for that weapon.

We tried to make it simpler, for example modding the blue laser so you didn't need to pick up the weapon itself but that didn't work. The blue laser won't recognize a powerup as ammo for itself without hardcore modding.

I love the little crates of dodgeballs. lol

Don't suppose you could script it so that players are automatically given the weapon?

It's been a while since I've done D3 scripting, but I seem to remember something along those lines... unless it was just keycards.

It's possible (see Instareap for example). I forget how it was done though.

Well if we did, we'd have to compile it for mac and linux. Which I don't have the resources to do.

Ok, it looks like we managed to grab us a dedicated server to beta test this on, so everyone who signed up for the test should be receiving an email sometime tonight. The test will be held this sunday, beginning at 7:00 pacific time. No telling how long it will take. It just depends on how much fun we have :)

edit: 7:00, not 5:00

Well, the beta went great. My thanks to all who helped out :). Many of your ideas are already being implemented, and the photos for the locker room are in the works ;)

No Problem Jon.:D :D :D Glad to have been a help for your desire to determain(sp?) for Mac Compat. Keep up the good work, and can't wait to see full version, w/the screenshots on the walls.

Wow we're getting alot of positive feedback! :) I luv you guys. :D

This week has been tough as far as finding time to work on Dodgeball. LF and I have both been busy with various things in real life, namely Thanksgiving. ;) However, depending on how things go, it is possible we'll be ready to release sometime this weekend.

Well I can't log in here. For some reason either my username or password is no longer valid.
The e-mail function never sends me a new password when I tell it i forgot my password so ★■◆● it.

I'm here on a temporary account to say,
Descent Dodgeball is now officially released!

You may download it here:

It should have been released about a week ago, but there were some problems with getting it hosted. But now it's out and I can calm down again.

now hosting a 1.5 server

I added it to dfiles.de and added a downloadlink "descentforum.net".

Now hosting on Descentforum.NET 2. Testing in 5 Minutes :D

EDIT: It is cool! Absolutely cool.

I'd like to offer the OOF data to the serverops, because after killgoal it crashed :( . To prevent this download and extract the files into the D3 root.

I found a fundamental bug or let's say error in Dodgeball:

Have you EVER seen a women's toilet / restroom without a mirror? I mean: I haven't really been on women's toilet since I was 3 years or so, but as far as I know MANY of em must be on rooms like that. :D :)

How come you went into the women bathroom ? :P

Posted: Mon Dec 20, 2004 7:27 pm
by Liquid Fire
You spawn there sometimes.

And since I think you can only have one mirror per room, and the bathroom is just one room, I figured it'd be better to just leave it out instead of leaving one side without mirrors.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Hey only LADIES need mirrors - hahahahaha.

by SSX-Thunderbird
I don't think I've ever seen any public restroom without a mirror :P.

I find it rather disturbing that the bathrooms are just one room :P. Or the fact that you took the time to put bathrooms in there at ALL :P.

That summons an interesting thought....What would the game do if you were able to have two opposing (parralel) mirrors in a room? Would the game go in an endless loop trying to compute the infinite reflections? hmm...

D3edit does not allow it. It is quite annoying about not allowing you to have more than one mirror per room no mattter what. :P
