STRESSTEST wrote:Today I made a new OPT file (GFX driver file) for nVidia cards in Forsaken that uses triliniar filtering, will go to 1024x768, allows for up to 128 megs texture memory and it all runs on a vanilla gforce 5700 @ 1024 @ 520 FPS with no tweaks.

It's 54k and you just drop it in the Acclaim\forsaken]opt folder. Then you chose it at launch.

You can download it for free too.

I got the game two weeks ago, and have already made efforts to recruit players. We need to revive this game, now.

The things I heard about Forsaken back in the Kali days were not nice, to say the least.

Download in what way? I never heard of the full version being free. Do you mean the demo?

Forsaken...wasn't that a lame Descent ripoff?

it was a 270 degree attempt at the 360 degree original. .. er.. on space motorcycles with guns.

Wow, this game has not aged well at all. The environments are quite ugly even at 1600x1200. The weapon effects are kinda' nice though. It's too drifty, just like I remembered it. Drifty imprecise controls for a game that sends a zillion projectiles at you at once. Oh yeah, loads of fun there.

It has a lot of ideas that wound up in Descent 3 though. Stationary turrets, roaming tank enemies, wind tunnels, and breakable props.

listen you a$$hats. This is a revival. no one is telling you that you have to play. Go sh}t in the ethics forum or something. Jesus... No one here really cares that you dont like this game if that is the case. Be content with subway dancer or BI3 for the rest of your 360 degree playing days. Yay!. Some of us are interested in some diversity, so that's why this is here.

I mean really. You guys see this thread titled. Forsaken revival. And you decide in that minimind of yours that ./. "hey, these guys wanna get together for some fun playing a different game. So I will mosey on in and proceed to SH|T all over the thread they are working in to organize that fun.. Im a big man!@ yay me" ? Is that it? pathetic....

If you're referring to me, what I posted was all that I have ever heard about this game. Obviously, it's more than it seems and worth a download.

They had to throw in their poor insults. Very typical of the Descent community.

The Singleplayer experience is alright. Definitely better than the horrific D3 campaign. However, multiplayer is the strong point of this game. And untill more of you actually try the multiplayer, I see little value in your generic opinions.

Gotta love when they admit they've played it for 3 MINUTES. OMG NO ONE GIVES DESCENT A TRY!1!!1314

Forsaken is the descent 1 engine.. with insane graphics compared to the orginal Descent. For it's time it was an awsome game ..hell 3/4's of the D3 Community are migrates from Fo-saken, D1/2 purists shunned D3 an anything elses to close to it, those types are seen above

We do still play this game over at KALI...so you guys spanking it over at gamesurege miss everything (isolationalists)

I still want to bang the betty on the cover

Forsaken is fun for a change, been playing it for years on and off. I even had it on my PSX.

But the real deal is D3. :)

I had the same problem...try downloading and using the latest No-CD crack, that fixed it for me. I don't know if I can give out a link to it here, but hopefully you know where to look.

Sorry to nitpick here, but what exactly was so horrible about D3's singleplayer? In concept, at least, it was infinitely better than D1/2's "get keys, blow reactor, escape, repeat ad nauseam" formula. Outrage may not have made the most coherent levels, but at least they added some much-needed variation.

I apologize for being such an idiot. Anyway, back on topic, I installed the game, but I can't seem to figure out a way to invert the Y-axis (the menu command doesn't change anything). I also can't read text in certain menus, particularly off of the main screen. Also, there doesn't seem to be any support for a joystick throttle/twist axis, but I may just be missing it.

Edit: Some of these features may have been fixed by the patch, but I wasn't able to get it; a 57-minute wait at Fileplanet and registration required at Gamespot. Is it too much to ask for easy downloading these days?

the invert axis in the escape menu doesn't work.

You have to invert it from the main menu under controls/joystick.

Incidentally, not only does gamespot want you to register, they want you to install spyware as well.

Crap; that's the exact place where none of the menu text shows up. :P

TY -- waiting to d/l the patch..

Anyone w/ a no-cd patch link handy ? Note: according to the patch 1.01 readme, no-cd is build-in. Also the game is freely available. If you still think it'd be against DBB policy to post the link, please send me a PM. Thx.

I downloaded it, installed it, patched it, and now I can't seem to get it to run. For a geforce2 do I want to use stressy's .opt, or another one?

http://dl.gamecopyworld.com/?f=Fors101!zip

At least one of the DL links there works. First, apply the 1.01 patch if you haven't already, then apply the No-CD patch.

Can't help you on the "no pickup sound" bug, I get that myself. It's supposed to be a computer voice telling you what you got, and while the sound files are there and can be played in Windows, they refuse to play in game... :|

by STRESSTEST
the cd I have works with the voice and all, but the downloaded version doesn't

I suppose I could make an image of the cd and we could all use that....

I'll try the 1.01 patch on it and see if that helps first

Does anyone know if there is a patch for any of the newer ATI cards?

I'm thinking of installing on the rest of my house computers for the next LAN.

I was talking to someone in chat though and they said the rage one that is in there works for the radeons, but you have to use an older driver version?..

forsaken.rar is 454 megs compresses using the strongest compression in Winrar.

In the rar are 2 files. forsaken.img and forsaken.cue. Open the cue file using nero to burn the image to CD.

no code key is needed.

PM me for the link. It's real large and I'd rather have us all share with eachother if possible to host the file.

For those of you with access to Punisher's FTP, I am uploading there now.
