Anyone tried WinAmp 5 yet? I've still got 2.91, and I'm wondering what marvelous things 5 has.

They dont have the enqueue/dequeue feature from 3 (my fav. feature) so im not upgrading yet.

I've been using 5 since the beta and love it. The fact that it runs like 2 with the features of 3 was enough to hook me. Haven't found anything wrong with it at all. All the issues I had with the original beta were fixed in the following beta release and don't show up in the final either Image

Still using 2.65 and see no reason to upgrade.

W5 is (for me at least) very stable. Previous versions crashed often (every few days) and the visualisations would seldom run for longer than 5 minutes without crashing and taking Winamp with it.

Just make sure you set any winamp to use DIRECT SOUND not wave out <Dont be a faggot and Quote me, Get your own content>

I was using 2.91, and just upgraded to 5, and see no reason to do so. There is nothing 5 does (that I use) that 2.91 did not do, and the forms get messed up if you switch resolutions (like exiting games). So while 5 is definitely not bad, to me it is essentially 2.91 with a bug.

I like Winamp 5 and have had no major problems with it, other than the one Scorch mentioned which is, imho, rather annoying. I was usign Quintessential for a while, but I like how Winamp has direct integration with Shoutcast and Internet TV.

Could someone who is still using 2.91 tell me how much RAM it uses in XP just idle? WA5 is using just over 12,000k idle here ATM.

Winamp 2.91 with a skin and 346 MP3s in the play list is taking up 6,068 K. That's on 2000 though...

I like it better than the previous versions, but I didn't like how it hijaaked ALL my media types whenever I start it up, even though I only tell it I want it to play mp3's. Whenever I started it up, it would change all of my file preferences no matter what I told it to all use winamp. It's aggressiveness earned it the "uninstall" unfortunate because it's really a good program.

Winamp 2.91

Idle: 6,292kB
Playing: 6,904kB

Whereas 2.65 only ate up what....4MB?

winamp 2.91 = good
winamp 3 = suck
winamp 5 = best

I was stubborn and didn't want to switch from 2. I tried 3 briefly and thought it sucked. Winamp 5 is the 2 engine with the skinning capabilities of 3.. it's great.

mine uses 18k idle and 20k while playeing. xp corp. with sp1, modern skin and 273 songs. why is mine so high?

My W5 uses 3800 with a 40MB song, 800-1100 idle, with Waiora 3000 skin.
With MMD3 skin it uses 4400-13000 idle, 5700-20000 with the 40MB song.

Part of it's usage depends on the skin, part on wether it is the last window clicked on.

12k idle, bout 19k while playing. WinXP Pro SP1 MMD3 skin.

Now WA5 is only using 10,000k while playing, and I have NOT rebooted since the last time I checked.

Guess it just changes depending on the time of the week. Image
